How This Course Works

The Sustainable Events Course is designed to be practical and flexible, allowing you to apply the learning to different types of events as you progress.

All modules are available on demand, but we recommend completing them in sequence, as each module builds on the last.

    • 6 on-demand modules

    • Recommended pace: 1 module per week

    • Typical completion time: around 6 weeks

    • Course access: 4 months from enrolment

You’re free to pause, revisit modules, or move faster or slower depending on your workload.

  • Across the six modules, you’ll develop a practical understanding of:

    • Setting sustainability goals and KPIs from the event brief

    • Engaging venues, suppliers, and stakeholders on shared sustainability priorities

    • Managing destination, travel, and transport impacts

    • Making more informed food and beverage decisions

    • Applying circular economy principles to event production and consumables

    • Measuring event impact and identifying opportunities for improvement

    • Begin with Module 01: Events For Good

    • Work through the modules in order for the best learning experience

  • Each module includes:

    • On-demand video lessons

    • A key takeaways document summarising the module

    • Supporting documents, links, and readings (where applicable)

    • Practical exercise to complete before moving on

👉 We recommend reviewing the supporting documents before starting each module, as they provide important context and tools.

  • Each module includes an exercise designed to help you apply the learning in a practical setting.

    • Each exercise contains an introductory brief

    • You may choose a different event scenario for each module

There are three template event briefs available:

    1. Using your own experience

    2. The Experiential Dinner

    3. The Corporate Conference

  • As you progress through the course, the module exercises can be combined into an Event Impact Report.

    • Submission for assessment is optional

    • Feedback is provided by isla

    • Assessment must be requested before your course access ends

Completing the Event Impact Report can help you consolidate your learning and demonstrate your sustainability knowledge to stakeholders or clients.

  • All students receive complimentary 6-month access to measure one event using TRACE by isla, the carbon measurement platform for events.

    • Access begins from your enrolment date

    • TRACE supports learning in the later modules, particularly Module 06

    • An introduction to TRACE is available in the Bonus Video Case Studies sectionscription

  • Your learning portal also includes:

    • Bonus video case studies

    • Additional reports and resources

    • Expert insights from Northstar Meetings Group and isla

These are optional but recommended for deeper learning.
